Sardines

OK. I know half of you are screwing up your nose at the thought of these little fish but the health benefits are enormous!

They are one of the richest sources of Omega 3s (helps to lower cholesterol) and have high levels of Vitamin B12 (great for heart health).  They have good levels of calcium and phosphorous (good for bone health). They are also very high in Vitamin D – a vitamin that is difficult to find in food.  Vitamin D is great for the bones and the immune system.

Sardines are at the bottom of the aquatic food chain, feeding solely on plankton, and therefore do not concentrate heavy metals, such as mercury, and contaminants as do some other fish.

So it’s worth giving these little fish a go. Try them:
* Drizzled with Lemon juice or balsamic vinegar plus olive oil.

* Mixed with onion & olives.
